In 2002, ITV launched a television series Footballers' Wives titled, whose main subject matter related to a fictional English Premier League club, its players, and of course their wives. Influenced by the lifestyles of some prominent women in real life as Victoria Beckham, the characters were shocking, often cold-hearted, and the show had more gold diggers in California around 1849. Although WAG label had not yet entered the lexicon, the type of stereotypes portrayed these women was nothing new. Footballers' Wives, was simply a means to introduce these concepts to a wider audience.
